Week 1 Assignment 1: Creative Blog Entry
Choose an inanimate object in your workspace.Note: This could be a chair, desk, plant, pencil, or whatever catches your eye.
Write a blog about the following:
What is the story of this object?
The inanimate object in my workspace that I would like to write about, is the really nice used printer I found that I have never had a power cord for. The story of this printer is, that I found it about a year ago and fixed it; there was a card jammed into the machinery and was probably tossed because the owner could not fix it. However, there was no power cord with it and I have not taken the time to try replacing it as of yet....as a matter of fact, I’m beginning to wonder if I really ever will. Because it has been sitting here for well over 6 months and I really haven’t given it much thought at all. I mean, do I really need it and/or it is worth me getting a cord for?
Imagine it sitting next to another object of its kind but of much better or much worse quality:
What is it thinking about that other object?
If there was a better and fully functioning printer sitting next to this one, it would probably have to think that “this is the end for me!”. It would probably say, “why on earth would this guy leave me sitting here, collecting dust for so long, if he really didn't even want to fix and use me?” or “what an idiot, did he just get me for decoration or what?!?”... “...fix me you nut job and have a decent printer for once!”
How does it feel being compared to it?
If it could feel, it would probably be more mad at me and the new printer than anything. I mean, it is a perfectly good printer...it just needed a power cord (and to have that old card removed from the machinery)! Maybe even some new ink...then bam...it’s on! It is not the printer’s fault there is no cord, right?!
If the printer could talk and give me advice:
“Listen, why don’t you get on the internet and look up the cost of getting a new power cord for me you idiot!”. Then it would probably add, “it’s as simple as that you nut...quit letting me hang around collecting dust and taking up space”. “Fix me man, please!”...“I might actually be worth it!”
